Comprehensive Vision and Eye Health Examination

Comprehensive Vision and Eye Health Examination

Yearly eye exams are very important to maintain healthy eyes through early detection of age related diseases. Early detection minimizes the risk of decrease in eyesight since some eye diseases develop slowly without showing any symptoms of pain or vision loss. Our comprehensive eye exams include thorough refraction and prescription for glasses, binocular vision assessment, color vision, depth perception tests (as needed) along with evaluation of the front and back of the eye.

Glaucoma, Cataract and mascular degeneration screening

Glaucoma, Cataract and mascular degeneration screening

In addition to prescription check for glasses and contact lenses, our standard exams also include screening tests for glaucoma, cataracts and age related mascular degeneration. We also offer detailed retinal examinations to detect any signs of vascular diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol related changes in the eyes, using retina imaging and dilation. Retinal imaging uses latest technology to capture high resolution images of the back of the eye. It provides details that are not visible through a standard examination. These images can reveal subtle changes in the eye health, which allow the doctor for early detection and treatment to prevent the risk of vision loss.

Contact Lens Exam

Contact Lens Exam

At our office, we offer a comprenhensive array of contact lenses to suit each individual patient's needs. Contact lens exam includes prescription for both glasses and contact lenses, trial lenses, starter kit solution, and a follow up visit.

Common Eye Diseases & Conditions

Many serious eye diseases develop slowly and without symptoms. Annual comprehensive eye exams are the best way to detect them early.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma

An eye disease which affects the optic nerve, mostly from increase in intraocular pressure. This is a silent eye disease that impacts peripheral vision and can lead to permanent vision loss over time.

  • Open-angle glaucoma develops when fluids in the eyes are not draining adequately.
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma occurs when the drainage angle closes, resulting in a rapid rise in eye pressure. This is considered an emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
  • Normal-tension glaucoma does not affect your eye pressure but can still damage your optic nerve and lead to vision loss.
  • Although glaucoma is irreversible, preventative annual eye exams help detect it early so progression can be slowed with medicated eye drops, laser, or surgery.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

The leading cause of vision loss in adults 55 and older. AMD affects the macula, the central part of the eye responsible for the vision needed to read, drive, and recognize faces.

  • Dry AMD is the most common type and occurs as the macula begins to accumulate waste products and degenerate with age.
  • Wet AMD is far less common but responsible for over 90% of AMD related vision loss. It occurs when retinal blood vessels start to leak and lead to rapid vision loss. Wet AMD is an emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
Cataracts

Cataracts

A condition where the clear crystalline lens in the eye begins to become opaque or cloudy with age. Cataracts are very common.

  • In mild cases, slight vision problems can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.
  • In advanced cases, cataract surgery may be required.
Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetic Eye Disease

Occurs when high blood sugar damages the retina's blood vessels, causing them to break and leak fluids at the retina. A serious condition and the leading cause of blindness in working age adults.

  • Often shows no early symptoms until noticeable vision loss occurs.
  • Key management includes controlling blood sugar and getting a yearly comprehensive eye examination.
